Strength Will Rise

Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

DEVOTIONAL

There are days when life simply drains us. Our bodies tire, our minds grow restless, and our spirits feel worn thin. In these moments, the promises of God are not mere slogans for encouragement — they are lifelines. Isaiah reminds us that strength does not come from trying harder or pushing through by sheer willpower. True strength is given by the Lord Himself to those who learn to wait on Him.

To “wait” on the Lord is not a passive thing, like sitting at a bus stop wondering if help will ever come. It is an active trust — a heart posture of expectant hope rooted in the character of God. We wait knowing that He will act because He has already acted in Christ. He is not slow, nor does He forget His people.

When we wait upon the Lord — bringing our weariness, our fears, our helplessness to Him — He promises to meet us there. He lifts us up, like eagles soaring above the storms. He gives strength not just for the grand, soaring moments, but also for the long, everyday journey: to run without collapsing, to walk without quitting.

Christ Himself is our truest example. He entrusted Himself entirely to His Father, even unto death, and was raised up in glorious strength. And now, because we are united to Him by faith, the same resurrection power is at work within us (Ephesians 1:19-20).

So today, weary saint, do not lean on your own strength. Lay hold of the everlasting arms of God. He is not just willing to renew you — He delights to do it.

Prayer:
O Lord, we are often tired, weak, and full of doubts. Teach us to wait on You with hope and trust. Remind us that Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. Help us not to run ahead of You, nor lag behind, but to walk closely with You, trusting Your promises. Thank You that in Jesus Christ, we have a Savior who knows our weakness and provides all the strength we need. Lift our eyes to You today, that we might mount up with wings like eagles. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
