The One Mediator

1 Timothy 2:5 (ESV)

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

DEVOTIONAL

In a world filled with religions, philosophies, and spiritual pathways, this verse stands like a bright lighthouse in the fog: there is one God, and only one mediator between God and man—Jesus Christ.

A mediator is someone who stands between two parties to bring peace, understanding, or reconciliation. In the Bible, the need for a mediator exists because of sin. Our sin has separated us from a holy God. We can’t climb our way back to Him with good works, rituals, or moral effort. No amount of religion can close that gap. We need someone to stand in the middle—someone who understands both the holiness of God and the weakness of man.

That someone is Jesus.

He is fully God and fully man. As God, He is sinless, holy, and eternal. As man, He shares in our humanity—He walked in our shoes, felt our sorrows, and faced our temptations. On the cross, He took the hand of sinful humanity and the hand of a holy God, and through His death and resurrection, He brought us together. He didn’t just negotiate peace—He made peace by the blood of His cross (Colossians 1:20).

This truth is both humbling and freeing. It means we don’t need to go through any other person, priest, or saint to reach God. We don’t have to rely on our performance or feel like God is distant or unreachable. Through Jesus, we can come directly to the Father—freely, confidently, and with full assurance that we are heard and loved.

So when you feel unworthy, when you stumble, or when you wonder if God is really listening—remember your Mediator. Jesus is not just a bridge; He is your constant advocate, your High Priest, and your Savior.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven,
Thank You that I don’t have to climb my way to You or try to earn Your love. Thank You for sending Jesus—the one true Mediator—to stand in my place, take my sin, and bring me near to You.

Jesus, I trust in You alone. You are the only one who can truly bring me to God. Thank You for being my Savior, my Advocate, and my Friend. When I feel distant from the Father, remind me that You are always interceding for me and that through You, I am fully accepted and dearly loved.

Keep me close to You, and help me share this good news with others who are searching for peace.

In Your name I pray,
Amen.
