1 Peter 1:19 (ESV)
“…the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.”
DEVOTIONAL
The Apostle Peter, writing to believers who were scattered and suffering, reminds them of something profound: they were not redeemed with silver or gold, but with something far more valuable—the precious blood of Christ. He describes Jesus as a lamb without blemish or spot, a phrase rich with meaning that takes us all the way back to the Old Testament.
In Exodus, when God rescued Israel from slavery in Egypt, He told them to sacrifice a spotless lamb and spread its blood on their doorposts. That night, when judgment passed through the land, those under the blood were spared (Exodus 12). This event—the first Passover—wasn’t just a dramatic moment in Israel’s history. It was a picture of what Christ would one day do for us.
Jesus is our true Passover Lamb. He was sinless—without blemish or spot—perfect in every thought, word, and deed. He didn’t deserve to die, but He willingly laid down His life for us. His blood wasn’t just spilled—it was shed with purpose, to redeem us, rescue us, and reconcile us to God.
This reminds us that our salvation didn’t come cheaply. It cost the blood of God’s own Son. And that changes how we live. Peter wrote these words to encourage holy living. If we’ve been bought at such a high price, we’re no longer our own. We belong to the One who gave everything for us.
So, when we’re tempted to take sin lightly or to forget the seriousness of our salvation, we look to the Lamb. We remember His purity, His sacrifice, and His love. And we respond not with guilt, but with gratitude—and a desire to live in a way that honors Him.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven,
Thank You for sending Your Son, the perfect Lamb, to save me. His blood is precious beyond words—more valuable than anything this world could offer. He was without sin, yet He took my place and bore my guilt.
Help me to never take that lightly. Remind me daily that I’ve been bought at a price, not to live for myself, but for the One who died and rose again for me. Make me holy, Lord, not to earn Your love, but because I already have it in full through Christ.
May my life reflect the beauty and worth of the Lamb without blemish. In His name I pray,
Amen.
