The Lord Who Provides

Psalm 23:1 (ESV)

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

DEVOTIONAL

In a world filled with uncertainty, anxiety, and constant striving, Psalm 23:1 offers a profound truth: God Himself is our Shepherd, and in Him, we lack nothing. This verse reminds us that our security is not found in wealth, status, or human effort, but in the loving care of our sovereign God.

A shepherd’s role is to lead, protect, and provide for his sheep. Jesus, as our Good Shepherd (John 10:11), laid down His life to rescue us from sin and guide us in the path of righteousness. If He was willing to give His very life for us, will He not also meet our daily needs (Romans 8:32)?

To say, “I shall not want,” is not to claim a life free of hardship, but to confess a deep trust in God’s provision. No matter what we face—whether abundance or trial—our Shepherd is leading us, and His grace is always sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Prayer:
Father, You are my Shepherd, my provider, and my guide. Help me to trust in Your care and to rest in the truth that You will supply all my needs according to Your perfect will. Keep my heart from anxiety, and teach me to follow where You lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
