Colossians 1:27 (ESV)
“…Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
DEVOTIONAL
This small phrase holds oceans of meaning. Paul speaks here not only to the Colossians, but to every believer joined to Christ by faith. Christ in you—not just Christ beside you, not merely Christ above you—but Christ dwelling within you. This is the miracle and mystery of the gospel.
God’s plan from before the foundation of the world was not simply to forgive sinners, but to make His home in them. The same Christ who walked the dusty roads of Galilee, who stilled storms and raised the dead, who bore the wrath of God at Calvary and triumphed over the grave—that very Christ dwells within His people. What grace! What glory!
And this indwelling Christ is our hope of glory. Not wishful thinking, not a vague optimism, but a sure and steady hope, anchored in heaven. It is the confident expectation that because Christ is in us, we will one day be with Him, and be like Him—glorified, perfected, and welcomed into the joy of His presence forever.
This hope is not rooted in our strength, our performance, or our emotions. It is rooted in a Person. And because He does not change, our hope cannot fade. When the days are dark, when trials come, when the heart trembles—Christ in you remains. And He will carry you through to glory.
So take heart, dear saint. You may feel weak, but Christ is strong. You may falter, but He is faithful. He is not a distant Savior shouting encouragement from afar—He is within you, working, sanctifying, strengthening, and assuring you that you are His.
This is the gospel mystery revealed: not merely that we go to be with Christ, but that Christ comes to be with us—in us.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are my hope and my glory. Thank You for dwelling within me, for making me Your own. When I feel unworthy, remind me that You are enough. Strengthen me with Your presence and keep my eyes fixed on the day I will see You face to face. Amen.
