John 10:28 (ESV)
“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
DEVOTIONAL
There are few things more comforting in all of Scripture than the words of our Good Shepherd in this verse. Jesus speaks not as a distant ruler, but as the One who knows His sheep by name, who calls them, who lays down His life for them, and who holds them securely—forever.
Notice the power in His promise: “I give them eternal life.” This is not a reward for performance. It is not a prize for the morally polished. It is a gift—freely given by grace, not earned by works. If you are in Christ, eternal life is already yours. Not just a life that never ends, but a life made new, a life that begins now in communion with God and is perfected in glory.
Then He adds: “They will never perish.” The security of the believer is not based on our strength, but on His. We stumble. We grow weary. Our faith can waver. But He remains faithful. We are kept not by the firmness of our grip on Him, but by the unshakable grip of His hand on us.
And finally, “No one will snatch them out of my hand.” No enemy, no accusation of the devil, no failing or fear, no force in heaven or on earth can undo what Christ has done. We are held—not loosely, not temporarily, but eternally—in the sovereign, nail-scarred hands of our Savior.
So today, take heart. You may feel uncertain, anxious, or even unworthy. But the Lord’s promise does not rest on your feelings—it rests on His finished work. You are His. And He does not lose His own.
Prayer
Gracious Shepherd,
Thank You for the assurance that I am held in Your hand. When I doubt, remind me of Your faithfulness. When I feel weak, strengthen me with Your promises. Help me to rest in the truth that my salvation is not fragile, for it is secured by Your blood and guarded by Your hand.
Let this truth bring peace to my anxious heart and praise to my lips. Keep me close, Lord Jesus, and help me to walk in joyful confidence, knowing that nothing can separate me from Your love.
In Your strong and saving name,
Amen.
